Packing Tips

Useful Tips for Proper Packing

Inside Box - Storage Units
1. Put pallets or a grid of 2' x 3' on the unit floor to provide better circulation under your goods. Be sure to leave a walkway or aisle to the rear of the unit, and don't over pack!

2. Fill all your boxes to the maximum capacity. Partially full or bulging boxes may collapse or tip over while in storage.

3. Label your cartons, boxes, and goods clearly!

4. Pack books flat to protect their spines. Be sure to use many small boxes to avoid cartons that are too heavy to move with ease. Put the heavier items on the bottom.

5. Wrap your dishes and glassware individually with blank newsprint wrapping paper for the best results. Nest cups and bowls and stack plates and platters. Fill air pockets with newsprint wrapping paper or foam peanuts to keep your dishes from
breaking. Don't put your breakable items under other boxes.

6. Wrap all glass well, and store it on an edge, not flat.

7. Pack delicate lampshades separately. Use blank newsprint wrapping paper to wrap lampshades, as well as other property that may otherwise be damaged by ink stains from regular newsprint.

8. Stand sofas and mattresses on one end. Disassemble beds and tables, and wrap legs in newsprint wrapping paper. Be sure to keep your upholstery off the floor. Place loose, light plastic dust covers over furniture.

9. Clean appliances thoroughly before storing them. Your refrigerator and freezer need to be defrosted and dried prior to storing. Washing machines need to be completely drained. Remove doors of appliances and store them separately. Desiccants (drying agents) should be used. You need to check and empty appliances regularly.
